2-year check-up
The 2-year check-up assesses the child’s development before preschool age — speech, coordination, behaviour and growth. A free scheduled visit.
What to expect
An important assessment of readiness for nursery/preschool. The doctor will assess speech, independence, and social contact.
What the doctor checks
- Speech — The child should combine 2 words into simple phrases (give milk, mummy come).
- Independence — Assessment of whether the child eats with a spoon independently, tries to dress themselves, and signals their needs.
- Vision — Vision screening and eye alignment check — important before nursery/preschool.
- Teeth — By age 2, all 20 primary teeth should be present. Assessment of dental health.
- Behaviour — Assessment of social interaction, playing with other children, and understanding rules.
What to ask your doctor
- Is the child’s speech appropriate for their age?
