6-year check-up

The 6-year check-up is the examination before starting primary school: growth, vision, hearing, posture and speech development. The DTP + IPV booster is also given at this age. Free in Poland.

What to expect

A comprehensive pre-school examination including blood pressure measurement and booster vaccinations. The doctor will issue a medical certificate for school.

What the doctor checks

  • Blood pressure — The first routine blood pressure check — part of the standard from age 6.
  • Vision and hearing — A detailed check — normal vision and hearing are essential before school.
  • Height and weight — Assessment of whether the child is within the normal centile range, including BMI review.
  • Vaccinations — Catching up on missing vaccinations and giving booster doses (DTP, MMR).
  • School readiness — Final readiness assessment — issuing the certificate for school.

What to ask your doctor

  • Are all vaccinations up to date before school?
  • How should we interpret the blood pressure result?
  • What should we do if the vision screening result is abnormal?
  • Which check-ups should be done at school every year?
  • How should we support health at school — diet, activity?
